Our world changed in September 1984

When we joined medicine, what sounded like folklore?

For several days, we had burnt the midnight Oil

There was no way anyone could let our hopes foil

Our 2 year long struggle had eventually paid fruit

We were the first entrance exam batch to recruit

Cos, we had come out successful after a stiff competition to take

Now all we had was a bright career to make

It was a daunting prospect in our new found role

To become a good Doctor was our one and only goal

We saw each other for the first time at our Dean’s Cabin

Little did we know of each other’s Origin?

We gathered together at our beloved College

Only to find that Ragging was in rampage

Seniors made us all dance to their tune

We only hoped that it would be our turn soon

It all started with Anatomy and dissection

For the exams Nagaiah had provided us with our special selection

2 hours of dissection in the morning, we couldn’t take any more

By the end of it, our hands were really sore

Chaurasia or Gray, a difficult decision to make?

For Krishnakumar, Gray was a Piece of Cake

We then had physiology lecture to attend

Wherein all we could do was to pretend

Our attendance was usually through proxy

One could usually find us in a pub near Roxy

Biochemistry session was next on the card

Harper or Ambika Shanmugam, which one to discard?

NCC marching classes was to our dismay and disbelief

Jeevan’s Lemonade and Cigarette was a sea of relief

Pharmac, Patho and micro in the next year and a half

Even our teachers joined us for the good fun and laugh

For our clinical postings, we were scattered all over the place

It was in cinemas, pubs and hostel that some of us found solace

Trips, to kodai, ooty, goa and Kerala was so full of fun

It was at kodai that Naga went out for a naked run

In Kodai, we tracked down the man with the monkey

Whose veggie puffs made some of us very kinky

In Londa, we tasted our first Arrack

Which made our Senthil go really beserk?

We soon ran out of our pocket money

And we had to manage with only a few bottles of Fenny

Broken, we requested Dr.Jayalakshmi for a grant

Only to get further drunk and start to rant

And then there was this sad tale of Rakhi

That made all the boys very shaky

We also found a new hero on the train

Whose hands came out like the fork of a crane

To hold and save the damsel in pain

Only to find out the next day, all his efforts were in vain

In Kanyakumari, we were blessed with Nagananda’s Rocks

This sprung out like a Jack in the box

We had an exclusive mixture of class mates

Who amused us all with their talents and tastes

Who cannot recall Pasupathi who scored a century

Seeking match with every girl he met, except for the ones in the mortuary

How can we forget our man with tache

With Ramji sir around, it was always a drunken bash

Sadly he was laid to rest

But for us, he will always be the best

Monthly tests in our college days was always a riot

With the books dropping off our laps, the room was never quiet

When we didn’t know the answer we relied on the book

Pratap amazed us with his far sighted look

Let us not forget the great canteen gang

When they entered the scene, it was always loud big bang

I happen to be married to one

Washing up dishes is still full of fun

Exams were a killer, we lost friends on the way

Yet we found a way to help them for the exams in May

When final year came, things had to get serious

There was no room for us to remain nefarious

Davidson, Love and Mudaliar helped us achieve a good grade

To hold our heads high on the graduation day parade

Internship year provided us with lots of experience

The abundance of which gave us lot of confidence

Our success in the strike was a nail on the head

Unity and resilience we showed, so much to be said

We parted company in 1989

Only to be meeting again in 2009

20 years have passed since we graduated

Though scattered we still remain united

Let us remember Ramji and Seethalakshmi, whose souls have departed

At ReminisCE 2009, we all feel heavy hearted

We thank the organisers who toiled to arrange this meet

Salutations to you all, this is a glorious feat

To us all KMC shall always remain special

It was here we laughed, cried, fought, and made up-An experience that is very real

Let us take a pledge to continue this trend

The whole experience was so much fun; we don’t want it to end
